TRACK FRAGMENTS:

1.) "Save Me" – This track opens with a very simple rock ‘n’ roll intro section.  There is a small rhythm guitar change underneath the vocal lines of the vocal lines of the verse. The only real distinction between the musical verse and musical chorus was the switching of the hi-hat to the ride cymbal.  After the first chorus there is a small rhythm riff change used to connect the chorus with the verse.  At times when Eleanor sings the lyrics save me it is almost reminiscent of Steven Tyler on Aerosmith’s freshman release, released January 13, 1973.  The lead guitar solo was fairly short and to the point.   With that being said it does work very well with the rhythm arrangement.  There is a minor lead guitar solo underneath the last chorus of the outro section.
2.) "Double Shift" –The intro of this ballad consisted of an acoustic guitar arrangement.  The band does not kick the song in until the opening verse.  The fact that the musical verse was done with acoustic guitar and the micing on the drums was turned down causes the main focus to be on Eleanor’s lead vocals.  Brian used the same rhythm guitar arrangement for the intro as the musical verse.  Underneath the lyric lines of the chorus Brian overdubbed an electric guitar rhythm.  As Eleanor’s vocal lines progress through the song her vocals get more intense.  The lead guitar solo runs through the third chorus.
3.) "Honky Tonk Woman" – This cover song is a 1969 hit song by The Rolling Stones.  Released as a single on 4 July 1969 in the UK and a week later in the US, it topped the charts in both nations.
4.) "Rebel's Highway" – This intro opens with two measure of a Rhythm guitar arrangement before the rest of the band kicks-in.  There is a rhythm arrangement change for the musical verse.  The best rhythm guitar section is the small riff underneath the vocal lines of the chorus.  The lead guitar solo connects the second chorus with the third verse.  This solo is probably the best on the CD.

‘Tough Luck Mile’ is Octane Gypsy’s self-produced demo E.P.  Even though the CD was recorded in a recording studio the production quality of the songs have a very 4-track demo feel to them.  This 4-track sound is not necessarily a bad thing.  It is the band and their songs in there rawest unpolished form.  Musically the songs have a really classic rock sound to them.  Vocally, Eleanor at times reminds you of an early Steven Tyler.  Especially on track one.  I thought this however did not mention it, let my wife hear the CD and the first thing she said was the same thing I originally thought.  I mean this with the most sincerity to both vocalists however; at times Eleanor’s vocals have a drunken Janis Joplin sound to them.  For me the Rolling Stones cover was by far the best of the four tracks on the release.  Octane Gypsy has all the ingredients for the makings of a great band.   They just need a little more time to bang out a couple real solid songs with a few great hooks.
